Is now the perfect time to upgrade your bedside partner with something sleek, modern and packed with technology? If so, we’ve created this in-depth guide to help you find the best DAB radio alarm clock.
If your audio investments are starting to seem a little outdated, our selection of the top 10 lists will help you to find the perfect replacement for the year ahead.
Since we want to make sure that you get up on the right side of the bed, we thought one of our initial lists should focus on the best DAB radio alarm clocks to help you wake up with a smile on your face. After all, it’s usually a lot nicer to wake up to the sound of your favourite radio show or music each morning, than to be jolted awake by a shrill beeping or a high-pitched alarm.
As the world becomes increasingly digital, we thought it best to concentrate on radio alarm clocks for this list that already come with DAB functionality. A DAB alarm clock will ensure that you can tap into your favourite channels for years to come – even if the UK decides to leave FM stations behind.
We’ve thoroughly tested the following 10 DAB clock radios listed below to save you some all-important time and money on your next purchase.
Read on for our in-depth DAB radio alarm clock reviews.
1. AZATOM Horizon
Probably one of the most popular clock radio alarms that we’ve seen on the market today, the AZATOM Horizon has hundreds of positive reviews from customers across the UK. Offering a combination of FM, DAB, and DAB+ radio, the Horizon is a future-ready device designed to help you wake up happy each morning.
Though this clock radio doesn’t have a particularly beautiful design or even the best sound quality you’ll hear from a DAB clock radio, it’s a worthy consideration for your bedside table. This compact and highly capable radio is available in both black and white, with a high-quality XL display, and a rapid USB charging port for your phone.
FM, DAB and DAB+ radio streaming
Bluetooth with a huge 66 foot range
60 preset stations available
Sleep timer function
Snooze function and dual alarm clock
12-24 hour time format
4 brightness settings for your display
USB charging port
The AZATOM Horizon stands out as one of the best DAB radio alarm clocks because it’s affordable, convenient, and brimming with features. While you might have to spend some extra time getting this system set up when you first buy it, once it’s up and running you should find it to be very easy and intuitive to use. What’s more, the Bluetooth streaming, and rapid USB charging features are fun little extras that you won’t typically get with most DAB alarm clocks available for this kind of price.
From one of the least attractive DAB radio alarm clock options in the current marketplace, to one of the more sleek and stylish choices, the Majority Histon II is sure to fit well into any bedroom environment. Created with a focus on sleek simplicity and sophistication, this Majority clock radio is available for just under £25, making it one of the most affordable options on this list.
Majority gives today’s radio lovers access to devices that look good, deliver a wide range of features, and provide excellent functionality. If you’re willing to compromise slightly on the materials used in your DAB radio alarm clock, and the sound quality, you can’t go wrong with Majority.
The Histon II comes with features like:
20 Preset station options
A dual bedside alarm clock with snooze function
Option to set your favourite station as your alarm clock
DAB, DAB+ and FM radio
Mains operated and battery powered
36-month warranty provided by Majority
The Majority Histon is a stylish-looking bedside clock with a large speaker area that’s sure to produce enough volume to wake you up in the morning. What’s more, the portability of this device means that you’ll have no trouble taking it downstairs with you into the kitchen, or around the house once you’re up. There’s even a selection of three colours to choose from, to make sure that your radio matches your sense of style.
The Ocean Digital portable DAB radio might not be the best-known DAB alarm clock on the market, but it has a lot of excellent features to offer for just under £35. If you’re looking for an alarm clock radio that looks futuristic and compelling, with a bold display and an easy-to-use interface, then this could be the ideal choice for you. There’s even a USB port in the back of the clock so you charge your phone from the device without finding a separate outlet.
Compact and convenient, this DAB radio alarm clock can be taken with you on the go, so you can use it downstairs when you’re done with your evening snooze. The dual speakers on the device also makes the Ocean Digital an excellent choice for listening to the radio on a day-to-day basis.
Large easy-to-read display
Compact design for your bedside table
Support for DAB, DAB+ and FM radio
Charging USB port
20 preset stations
Dual alarm clock
Sleep timer and snooze
The fact that you can dim the display so that it’s not too distracting when you’re trying to get to sleep is an excellent extra feature of this clock. What’s more, it’s nice to know that the time will automatically change itself when the clocks spring back and forward through the year. Just keep in mind that the aerial included is a little flimsy.
Pure is absolutely one of our favourite British brands when it comes to alarm clock radios, or just radios in general for that matter. One of the more recent products designed for the Pure alarm portfolio is the Pure Siesta Rise S, one of the fancier products in the “Rise” lineup.
As we’ve noted in our previous DAB radio alarm clock reviews of the Siesta Rise, it’s a very attractive bedside companion for people who want a sleek and sophisticated way to start the day. Available in four different colours, the device comes with a mobile phone charging slot, and the option to set up to three independent alarms.
As well as playing DAB, DAB+ and FM radio, the Siesta Rise can also stream content directly from your phone or tablet through Bluetooth too. What’s more, the screen automatically dims to avoid distracting you when you’re falling asleep.
Features of this product, available for just under £75 include:
FM, DAB, and DAB+ radio
Automatically dimming display
Up to 3 alarm options
Mobile phone charging
3 year warranty
4 colours to choose from
Featuring Pure’s beautiful attention-to-detail and commitment to high-quality materials and technology, the Siesta Rise is a fantastic alarm clock radio. However, this product is also one of the most expensive options that we’ve reviewed for our list. There’s even a slightly more expensive version available called the Siesta Charge, which allows you to wirelessly charge your phone on top of your radio. However, if you don’t mind the price factor, then the Pure Siesta is an excellent choice.
Majority offer one of the widest selection of radios and CD players on the market today. It’s no wonder that they have multiple options to choose from when you’re looking for the best radio alarm clock. The Majority Fullbourn II is one of the more intelligent options available for users in 2020, offering features like wireless Bluetooth, dual USB charging, and more, alongside your standard DAB+ and DAB radio.
Like most Majority products, the Fulbourn II comes with an affordable price tag that will suite most budgets. What’s more, there are two USB charging points included in the device, so you don’t need to worry about finding additional outlets for your phone and other devices. As an alarm clock, the Fulbourn comes with dual alert settings, snooze and sleep modes.
Other features of this product, available for just under £45 include:
Dual USB charging ports
Aux in for streaming
Dual alarm clock
Snooze and sleep function
Digital radio, DAB, and DAB+ approved
FM radio available
Once again, we wouldn’t call the Majority one of the most attractive DAB alarm clocks that money can buy. The matt black finish is attractive, but the bulky design of the radio might make it look a little clunky on most bedside tables. However, if you’re looking for a wide selection of features at a low price point, you can’t go wrong with the Fulbourn II. There’s only one very significant downside that might put you off buying this product – and that’s the brightness of the display.
The Pure Siesta Mi Series 2 isn’t quite as fancy as the other Pure DAB alarm clock that we’ve reviewed so far – but it is an excellent choice for those who want DAB alarm functionality for a low price. This stylish-looking alarm clock radio comes with the option to stream FM, DAB, and DAB+ radio on your bedside table, with 16 preset stations available. There’s also automatic brightness control that seamlessly dims your display when you turn your lights off at night.
The Pure Siesta Mi Series comes with multiple alarms to set, so that you can change the time you wake up on weekend and weekday mornings. Additionally, there are sleep and snooze timers with volume fade options to let you wake up more naturally and gradually too. There are even automatic clock updates built-in for hassle-free updates when the times change.
For just under £40, the Pure Siesta Mi Series comes with:
FM, DAB and DAB+ radio
Sleep and snooze settings
Gradual volume fade
Automatic clock updates
Digital tick approval
Automatic brightness control
There’s no Bluetooth streaming or wireless charging available with product, like you might be able to get with other items from the Pure product portfolio – but it’s still an excellent option in our eyes. For a reasonably low price point, you’re getting an excellent quality of sound – both for your alarm and your regular radio listening. What’s more, the Pure Siesta’s interface is intuitive enough that you shouldn’t have too much of a problem figuring out how to get everything to work.
Another excellent product from AZATOM for our list of the best DAB radio alarm clocks, is the Spitalfields – a DAB/FM radio that lets you set a number of different alarms to guide you through your day. The AZATOM comes with a built-in rechargeable battery that allows you to carry it around the house and into the garden. What’s more, we were particularly impressed by the design of this AZATOM alarm clock radio, which features a retro appeal similar to that of the Roberts Revival.
The AZATOM Spitalfields might not be the most advanced DAB clock radio that you’ll see on the market – or even on this list, but it offers style and sophistication in a neat package. What’s more, the built-in subwoofer means that you get some really impressive sound for less than £40.
The Spitalfields retro DAB radio comes with:
4 alarm clock options
A rechargeable battery for portability
DAB, DAB+ and FM radio
Choice of colours to suit your style
3-year warranty included
The fact that you can set four different alarm clocks with the Spitalfields is particularly impressive for people who might need to wake up at different times throughout the week. If your shifts force you to live around a complicated sleeping pattern, this could be the best clock for you. What’s more, the attractive design of the AZATOM means you’ll have no problem showing the product off to friends, family, and visitors.
If you’re on the hunt for the best DAB radio alarm clock, and you’re willing to pay anything to get the best experience possible, then the Revo SuperConnect could be just the product for you. Easily one of the most intriguing DAB alarm clock radio options on the market today, Revo brings modern and retro vibes into your bedroom, combined with incredible voice quality.
Getting the Revo SuperConnect set up is easy, with joystick control systems and an interface that’s easy enough to navigate. You can also hook your Revo alarm clock up to your Wi-Fi network to access your internet radio and other music stored on devices around your home. Bluetooth is also included for easier streaming. Of course, while the Revo SuperConnect might be one of the most amazing DAB alarm clocks on the market, it’s also one of the most expensive, at just under £300.
DAB, DAB+ and FM TUNER
Incredible sound quality
Spotify connect enabled
DLNA audio streaming
Bluetooth wireless streaming
Dual alarms for all your needs
Fantastic volume levels
The Revo SuperConnect is more than just a radio alarm clock – but it has all the features that you might need to use it as a way of waking up in the morning. This incredible radio gives you a state-of-the-art way to listen to the music and channels that you love with ease. Let’s face it, the Revo SuperConnect isn’t bad to look at either. Unfortunately, it’s just not going to be an affordable option for some customers.
Another DAB radio alarm clock from the team over at Majority, the Barton II is an attractive upright radio with a delightful wood effect finish. This classic-looking radio is sure to be an appealing addition to your bedroom, with a vertical design that makes it easier to fit onto your bedside table. Just remember that this device is powered by mains only, so you’ll need to make sure that it has access to an outlet at all times.
With 20 preset station options, you’ll have no problem finding the channels that you want to listen to with this product. What’s more, there’s an automatic time setting feature, so you won’t have to worry about changing your clocks for daylight savings time. The snooze capability means that you can get some extra sleep when you need it, and you’ll have no trouble drifting off stress-free when you realise that you get 36 months of warranty with this product.
For less than £30, the Barton II includes:
20 preset stations
Headphone jack for private listening
Dual alarm clock
Snooze function and sleep timer
FM, DAB, and DAB+ radio
Automatic time set
The Barton isn’t the most advanced bedside clock and radio that Majority offer. There’s no Bluetooth streaming available, although you’ll still get plenty of content from your FM and DAB connection. Additionally, you can’t charge your phone through your radio. However, if you’re looking for an attractive high-volume alarm that will work well in most bedrooms, this could be the best DAB radio alarm clock for you.
Last, but not least, we come to one of the most amazing radio alarm clocks offered by a leading brand, Roberts Radio. The Roberts Ortus 2 is a sophisticated and attractive DAB alarm clock, designed by the leading Roberts brand. While this bedside alarm clock might not be as attractive as some of the other products in the Roberts portfolio at first glance, it comes with plenty of features to entice its users, including an automatic time-set option, snooze, and a charging capability for your smartphone.
Capable of playing DAB, and FM radio, the Ortus is a little more advanced than the other alarm clock option from Roberts, the Chronologic VI. With a large display that’s easy to read at any time of the day and convenient functionalities like any-button snooze, the Roberts Ortus is a great choice for today’s consumers.
For just under £70, you’ll get features like:
Bedtime listening with automatic fade
Smartphone charging with USB socket
Any button snooze
2 alarm timer options
DAB, DAB+ and FM radio
20 station presets
Large screen and easy-to-use buttons
Though the Ortus isn’t the most attractive or amazing radio we’ve ever seen produced by the Roberts brand, it does have a lot to offer for those who love excellent sound quality and good design. The ability to set your radio to automatically fade down in volume when you’re listening before bed is an excellent added extra for the Ortus. We also love the fact that you can charge your smartphone from this device, so you can save using multiple outlets next to your bed.
Now that you’ve read through our DAB radio alarm clock reviews, you might have a better idea of the kind of product that you’re looking for. On the other hand, you might still be confused. After all, there are a lot of options out there, and each comes with a wide range of functionalities and features to consider. If you’re feeling puzzled about your radio choices, then here are some things that you might want to think about when buying a DAB clock radio:
Budget: Probably the most obvious thing you’ll need to consider when selecting the best radio alarm clock, is how much money you can afford to spend. Not everyone will be able to spend a fortune on something like the Revo SuperConnect. However, you might want something a little more pricey than the radios offered by AZATOM and Majority too. Think about how much you want to spend before you start searching.
Features: All good radio alarm clocks will be able to wake you up in the morning with your favourite DAB stations. However, it’s up to you to decide what you want your device to do beyond that. For instance, do you want a charging port built-in so you can charge your phone off your radio, rather than using another outlet? Maybe you’re looking for a built-in CD player, so you have other music playing options or a snooze function that gives you a few minutes of extra sleep. Some radios, like the Roberts Ortus, even offer a bedtime listening feature that allows the volume of your radio station to gradually fade out.
Alarm options: Speaking of alarm features – what do you want your Alarm clock radio to offer when it comes to waking you up? Do you want something like the AZATOM Spitalfields, which offers four different alarm settings depending on your needs? Maybe you’re looking for an alarm that you can also snooze using any button on your device, so you don’t have to scramble to find the snooze setting when you’re still half asleep?
Design: As a functional, rather than stylish product, your DAB alarm clock needs to be more than just attractive. However, that doesn’t mean that you don’t want to look for a product that’s going to look great on your bedside table. You might even need to think about the size of your alarm clock, so you can ensure that it will fit next to your bed if you have a small room.
Ease of use: Finally, even the best DAB radio alarm clocks won’t do you much good if you can’t figure out how to use them properly. An interface that’s easy to navigate and use will always be essential to your alarm clock. This is particularly true in a world where digital radios are becoming increasingly complicated.
Picking the alarm clock radio to suit you
Choosing the ideal radio alarm clock for your bedside table is easier said than done. There’s so much more to it than finding a product produced by a reputable brand like Roberts or Pure. You might also want to consider a wide range of other features, like Bluetooth streaming, smartphone charging, and multiple alarms.
If you’re looking for a DAB clock radio that can also act as your complete audio system, then you can’t go wrong with the incredible performance of the Revo SuperConnect – although this product might be out of some people’s budget. On the other hand, the Roberts Radio Ortus is an excellent selection for those in search of style, quality, and sound performance.
Good luck finding the ideal alarm clock radio.
