WHERE TO BUY

Ready to upgrade your home sound system?

Before you start splashing your cash on the latest audio deals, it’s usually a good idea to do your research.

For instance, you may already know that the Pure brand is a great choice for radio lovers searching for quality, performance, and style.

However, you won’t always know which Pure radio product you actually need.

Here at Radio Fidelity, we’re working through some of the top-selling Pure radios on the marketplace today to help you discover the true benefits of this amazing brand.

Today, we will be looking at the Pure Evoke C-D6.

The Evoke C-D6 is a top-of-the-line all-in-one music system with access to DAB and FM radio, an easy-to-use CD player, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Let’s take a closer look.

Pure Evoke C-D6 review: Design and build

Part of the comprehensive Pure Evoke line, which also includes the C-D4 and the C-F8, the Evoke C-D6 is a mid-level all-in-one radio created with a focus on functionality and style.

This particular radio system comes with an attractive real-wood casing, which is common throughout the Evoke portfolio.

The wood surround not only delivers an aesthetically pleasing radio set but also allows for deeper sound quality.

On the front of the device, you’ll see the iconic Pure logo, two sizable stereo speakers, tuning and volume knobs, along with a range of buttons for controlling your CD player and radio.

The white front panel houses the controls and the speaker grilles. However, you can go for the all-black version if you’re a monochrome enthusiast.

The system looks pleasant enough and offers plenty of functionality, similar to many other Pure products, like the Avalon or Siesta Rise.

One particularly impressive feature of the Pure Evoke is how much power it manages to fit into such a small space. You should be able to fit this device into any room of your home easily.

What’s more, there’s a remote control included so you can manage your music from a distance too.

The radio is designed to be as user-friendly as possible. For example, all the controls have been clearly laid out on the front of the radio. With such a layout, you can easily locate the buttons for different functionalities with ease.

Moreover, there is a small separate knob for volume and tuning that provides more concise volume control. The button also makes it easy to flick through the stations to find your favourite option.

While the digital display on this product isn’t in colour, it’s clear enough to read even from a few feet away, which is a nice bonus. A closer look at the display might make you think you’re using an internet radio!

Another useful feature? The headphone socket for private listening.

Pure Evoke C-D6 review: Features

One thing you’re bound to notice quite quickly about the Pure Evoke C-D6 DAB radio is that it’s not a cheap product.

Unlike solutions from competitors like AZATOM and Majority, you’re paying for every feature here, with a price tag of just under £230.

However, while the Pure Evoke C-D6’s best price is relatively high, you do often get what you pay for.

This all-in-one system in the Evoke range combines digital radio and easy wireless Bluetooth connections with a CD player and FM connectivity.

While the CD player might seem old-fashioned, CDs are prized by audiophiles due to their excellent sound quality. Therefore, this is an excellent radio that’ll help you rediscover your favourite old CDs.

Not only do you get a product that looks nice, but you also get technology that delivers relatively good value.

You can enjoy your entire music collection with the Evoke C-D6 without having to worry about being restricted to just radio or just streaming. Additionally, the CD player that comes built-in with the CD-6 also includes extra features like shuffle and repeat.

Features of this kit include:

  • DAB, DAB+ and FM radio signals
  • Bluetooth streaming from multiple devices
  • Headphone connection for private listening
  • Up to 20 DAB/FM presets
  • Sleep timers to save power
  • Best-in-class audio and digital amplification
  • Aux-in streaming from your devices
  • Stereo sound
  • Alarms to keep you on schedule
  • A remote control
  • CD player
  • Digital tick approval

The Pure Evoke C-D6 is an all-singing and all-dancing radio system for people who can’t afford to compromise on performance. The only thing missing is the option to play cassettes and vinyl records.

Pure Evoke C-D6 Review: Setting Up and Use

As with most Pure radios, the Evoke C-D6 is made to be highly user-friendly. Setting the radio up for the first time should be easy. However, like any piece of technology, it can be challenging to set the radio up, especially if it’s your first time interacting with Pure Radios.

That said,  we realized this radio has an easier and shorter setup process. It involves the following:

  1. Connecting the power: Insert the correct pin connector to the power adapter and insert the jack from the mains adapter into the socket at the rear of the radio. Finally, plug the adapter into the mains supply.
  2. Extending the aerial: Unclip the aerial and extend it fully.
  3. Autotuning: Once powered on, the radio will automatically search for the available stations. Wait for it to complete an autotune, after which a station will start playing.
  4. Changing digital stations: You can change the radio’s digital stations using the remote or the front panel controls. For the remote, press the 🢨 or 🢩 button to browse through a list of the available stations and then press “Select” to choose a station. If you want to use the front panel control knob, turn the select dial right or left to scan through a list of the available stations. Push the button to change a station.

Please check the user’s manual for additional information, including how to set your favourite presets.

Pure Evoke C-D6 review: Performance

So, we know the Pure Evoke C-D6 looks great – and is brimming with great features.

The question is, how well will this device perform?

As part of the Evoke all-in-one music system collection, you can expect an easy-to-use interface with the CD-6, including intuitive and simple controls. The Evoke C-D6 is also impressive when it comes to sound quality.

Despite a relatively compact design, you’ll get a room-filling stereo that’s ideal for drenching your home in sound.

You can adjust the settings on the Pure Evoke C-D6 DAB radio to give your music collection extra depth, clarity, and bass. The sound balance is also ideal for speech content, making this radio suitable for talk shows and podcasts.

What’s more, the real-wood casing combined with the embedded digital amplifier in this product makes for a sound that makes you want to sit up and listen. You can almost feel the music move through you with a radio as powerful as this.

Another thing we enjoyed about the Pure Evoke C-D6 is the fact that it’s future-proof. We’re not just talking about being able to access Bluetooth streaming here, either.

You’ll have unlimited access to DAB digital radio with the option to scroll through channels one by one and set your favourites as presets. What’s more, the C-D6 is also digital tick-approved, making it an excellent talk radio for topical issues.

On the downside, one slight performance issue we had was that the remote wasn’t always very responsive. We had to make sure we were pointing the device directly at the radio for it to work.

Moreover, its treble adjustment isn’t as precise as the bass. However, that doesn’t mean that the radio is not worth your money—the design could have been more precise in terms of treble adjustment.

Pure Evoke C-D6 review: Verdict

By the time we finished our Pure Evoke CD-6 review, it was clear to us that this radio is one that you can easily fall in love with.

From the moment you first lift the product out of the box, you’re swept away by the elegance of the design.

What’s more, when you turn this device on and start using it, you’re sure to be impressed by how much value it offers.

While the Evoke C-D6 is an expensive piece of machinery – it’s also an investment in excellent audio quality.

We really appreciated how immersive it felt to use this radio and the fact that we could access Bluetooth streaming as well as DAB.
