Best Shower Radios

Looking for the best shower radio? Here’s the top 9

Music is probably one of the easiest ways to transform your basic morning shower into a fun and care-free experience. Blasting your favourite tunes while you’re rinsing the soap from your hair is sure to set you up for an amazing day – even if you’re just heading into the office.

While you can always use a basic portable radio set up outside of your door to listen to music safely when you’re in the shower, your experience will be limited. There’s nothing quite like having your favourite tunes playing right next to you – drowning out the sound of the water.

The only problem? A lot of the shower radios produced over the last few years haven’t hit the mark when it comes to sound quality and performance.

Perhaps it’s because we’ve been waiting to find the right waterproof technology for our speakers. Or maybe companies have been so focused on keeping the cost of a waterproof shower radio low, that they’ve ended up compromising on output.

Either way, it has been tough to find the perfect waterproof radio for the shower.

Fortunately, all that is about to change. If you want to start your day with more music in your life, then this list of the best waterproof shower radios is sure to help with that.

Best Shower Radios

1. Roberts Radio Splash

From the Roberts Radio Classic, to the Roberts Unologic, we’ve reviewed our fair share of Roberts products here at Radio Fidelity. However, we haven’t had a chance to try out the shower radio from Roberts – until now.

The Roberts Radio Splash is a DAB, DAB+ and FM radio with Bluetooth playback included. Though it’s intended to sit outside of your shower cubicle, rather than under the water stream, it is waterproof enough to withstand basic exposure to water.

We wouldn’t recommend sticking this product underneath your shower to test it out – particularly when it’s going to cost you just over £85. However, if you’re willing to be cautious, the Splash is portable, lightweight, and great for easy listening. You can even take the Splash out with you in the rain.

Features include:

  • Bluetooth shower radio streaming
  • 8 preset options
  • All-weather support
  • FM, DAB and DAB+ streaming
  • Compact and portable design
  • Can withstand exposure to some moisture
  • Battery-powered for portability

Notably, the Roberts Radio Splash is splash-proof, not waterproof. It’s also worth noting that the design is quite a bit bulkier than some of the options we’ll cover in this list. However, if you’re looking for a Bluetooth shower radio with excellent audio quality, then you’re sure to have an amazing experience with Roberts.

The design is quite similar to the Roberts Sports DAB 5, although there are a few more features included with your shower radio, including a great speaker.

Pros:

  • Excellent sound quality
  • Portable and easy to use
  • Good reception
  • Lots of features, including Bluetooth streaming
  • Excellent at DAB connectivity

Cons:

  • Bulky design
  • Not totally waterproof

2. Majority Eversden DAB shower radio

The Majority brand offers an affordable radio for just about any occasion. Whether you’re looking for a complete home audio system or a tool that lets you listen to your favourite stations on the go, Majority has you covered.

It’s probably no surprise then, that some of the best shower radio reviews we found online were for a Majority shower radio.

The Majority Eversden DAB shower radio is a digital and FM listening solution that’s designed for ease of use. You can quickly scan and save your favourite stations, with 20 slots built into the software. The Majority Eversden features a shock-proof casing and a IPX5 waterproof rating.

There’s also a handy rubber hanging strap included that allows you to carry the radio around and hang it anywhere you like.

For just under £50, you’ll get features like:

  • FM, DAB, and DAB+ connectivity
  • IPX5 waterproof rating and shockproof material
  • Rubber hanging strap for portability
  • Bluetooth streaming
  • 3-year Majority warranty
  • High-performance audio
  • Excellent durability

As well as giving you easy access to DAB radio when you’re in the shower, the Majority Eversden is also a Bluetooth shower radio. That means that you can connect your smartphone and other devices to your radio system to listen to your favourite songs or podcasts.

The fact that the Majority also comes with a 3-year warranty is a huge bonus. However, it’s worth noting that the display on this machine isn’t particularly helpful. For instance, you can’t see what level of charge the battery has.

Pros:

  • Robust waterproof design
  • Bluetooth connectivity included
  • Rubber hanging strap for easy use
  • 3-year warranty for peace of mind
  • Shockproof material

Cons:

  • Difficult to attach the strap
  • Not a very useful display

3. Sony ICFS80 splash-proof shower radio

Sony is another well-known company in the world of radios and audio products. The leading waterproof radio for the shower available from Sony today is the ICFS80 splash-proof radio.

Once again, this is a radio that’s best-suited for use just outside of your shower. While you can keep it with you in the bathroom when you’re showering, we don’t recommend getting it soaked through.

The Sony splash-proof radio comes with a detachable rubber handle for portability, and strap holes that allow you to hang the device in your shower. This high-performance radio comes with a monaural speaker that’s capable of emitting plenty of sound.

Unfortunately, while the system offers AM/FM radio, there’s no DAB or Bluetooth streaming.

For just over £40, you’ll get:

  • FM/AM radio
  • Splash-proof rating of IPX4
  • 100 hours of battery life
  • 5 preset stations
  • Automatic power-off function
  • Straps and removable handle
  • 12-hour clock function

For the price, we did expect to see a few more features included with this Sony radio. However, it seems that the company is hoping that you’ll forget about the lack of DAB and Bluetooth connectivity in exchange for a huge battery life and a reliable, robust design.

You won’t be able to place this radio under direct running water, and you’re limited on what you can listen to. However, if you’re looking for a basic radio that you can rely on – this could be it.

Pros:

  • Can be hung in your bathroom or stood up on its own
  • Clock included
  • Great battery life
  • Very reliable volume

Cons:

  • No DAB connectivity
  • No Bluetooth
  • Limited features

4. HOTT Bluetooth shower radio

So far, we’ve covered a number of the best shower radios that you can bring with you into the bathroom but can’t use directly under flowing water. Now let’s take a look at a radio system that can attach directly to your shower wall.

The HOTT Bluetooth shower radio comes with the latest in Bluetooth 5.0 technology and up to 10 hours of playback time.

There are 3 watts of output power included in this device, to allow for greater volume, and an LCD display screen where you can check things like the time, and your battery power when you’re listening to music.

The water-resistant casing is IPX4 rated, and the extra strong suction cap makes it easy to attach to your shower wall. There’s also a built-in microphone, Micro SD card support, and the option for hands-free calling on this device.

For just over £25, features include:

  • IPX4 showerproof coating
  • Easy-to-use suction cap
  • LCD display screen with battery information
  • Rechargeable lithium-ion battery
  • 3 watt speaker
  • Hands-free calling
  • Built-in microphone
  • SD card support
  • Super compact design

Again, we’re not sure if you can use this directly under your shower stream, but you can attach the device to a wall nearby and get plenty of excellent sound quality while you wash. The LCD display is very easy to use, and we love the fact that there’s a microphone included so that you can take calls while you’re washing your hair.

This shower radio with Bluetooth is one of the best-connected on the market. However, keep in mind that even with a 3-watt speaker, you’re not going to get the loudest performance.

Pros:

  • Extra strong suction cup to attach to wall
  • Excellent easy-to-use interface
  • Hands-free calling included
  • Bluetooth connectivity

Cons:

  • No DAB
  • Not sure how waterproof it really is
  • Not the loudest device

5. Basspal shower speaker

Basspal might not be a name that you hear as often in the radio world as Roberts or Majority, but when it comes to shower audio, this company has something amazing to offer. The Basspal shower speaker was designed first and foremost as a speaker for your smartphone or laptop, rather than as a shower radio with Bluetooth.

However, you can listen to FM radio on the device relatively easily.

Unlike most of the best shower radios that we’ve covered so far, the Basspal is unique in the fact that it is 100% waterproof. This tool is rated with an IPX7 certification for waterproof performance, which means that you can submerge it in up to 3 feet of water for 30 minutes without causing any damage.

If you’re looking for a completely waterproof radio for the shower, the BassPal is a great choice at just under £20.

Features include:

  • Complete IPX7 rating for waterproof performance
  • Suction cup or floating design to use in the bath
  • Powerful speaker
  • Easy-to-use performance
  • FM radio connectivity
  • LED lighting
  • Built-in microphone for hands-free calling

Once again, like the HOTT product that we reviewed above, the Basspal also comes with a microphone included so you can use it for hands-free Bluetooth calling when you’re in the bath if you want to.

There’s also a flashing LED lighting effect if you want to make your shower even more exciting for any reason. Reliable and easy to use, the Basspal is great value for money for those in search of a Bluetooth shower radio.

Just remember that you’re not going to get DAB. Additionally, it takes a long time for this device to get fully charged.

Pros:

  • Easy pairing with Bluetooth devices
  • Fully waterproof design
  • LED lights for a bit of extra fun
  • Reasonable sound quality
  • Hands-free calling available

Cons:

  • Long charging time of up to 3 hours per charge
  • No DAB radio

6. Guzack Bluetooth shower radio

Here’s another state-of-the-art shower radio with Bluetooth streaming included. The Guzack Bluetooth radio was designed once again as a speaker first, with access available to FM radio. There’s no DAB connectivity, but you can connect any Bluetooth device in six seconds or less, which is a great bonus.

Buy Guesswork by Lloyd Cole

With a battery lasting up to eight hours and relatively high-quality acoustics for such a small radio, the Guzack is a great choice for those in search of a simple but effective  shower radio. Like the Basspal that we reviewed above, this radio can also be submerged in water of up to 3 feet without losing any performance.

There’s also a suction cup included that attaches well to virtually any smooth surface in your bathroom.

For just over £15, the Guzack comes with:

  • Reliable Bluetooth connectivity and streaming
  • Wide compatibility with a range of devices
  • 100% waterproof design
  • Crisp audio quality for such a small device
  • Speakerphone or handsfree talking features included
  • 8 hours of battery life
  • Reliable suction cup to help you attach to the wall

This device is a simple solution for those who will probably listen to more of their own music via Bluetooth than a DAB or DAB+ radio. The Guzack Bluetooth shower speaker is equipped with a reliable suction cup, hands-free speakerphone, and more.

We love the fact that you can use the system to answer calls from your phone without getting your device wet. Unfortunately, the volume controls aren’t very good, as they’re hard to use when you’re in the shower.

Additionally, you might find that every time you switch this device on it automatically defaults to Bluetooth, which is a bit of a pain if you were just listening to FM last time you used it.

Pros:

  • Affordable pricing
  • Good Bluetooth connectivity
  • 100% waterproof
  • Versatile design
  • Microphone included

Cons:

  • It’s a pain to change the volume
  • Doesn’t remember what you were doing with the device last

7. VTIN shower radio and speaker

You might have noticed by this point that it’s hard to find a waterproof radio for the shower that comes with a DAB connection and a price of under £40. Many of the more affordable waterproof shower radios on the market skip DAB in favour of Bluetooth streaming, and that’s the case again with this VTIN Soundhot shower radio.

While you can access FM radio with this device, you won’t be able to get too much of a signal. This is a device intended more for streaming your own music than anything else.

On the plus side, what the VTIN lacks in DAB radio, it makes up for in volume, with an advanced 8-watt driver included for HD sound. This speaker is a lot louder than most of the other shower radios you can find on the market today.

If you’re looking for a shower radio with Bluetooth connectivity that can bring down the house, you’ll lover the VTIN, which is available for less than £15.

Features include:

  • Reliable Bluetooth 4.0 connections
  • FM radio streaming
  • IPX5 splash resistance
  • Clock information
  • Suction cup or hanging handle
  • Microphone for hands-free calling
  • Advanced sound quality

As with many of the shower radios on the market today, the VTIN was designed with speaker functionality in mind, more than radio. If you just want to listen to your favourite stations, then this device might not be the ideal option, as it doesn’t even remember the last station you were listening to.

On the plus side, you do get plenty of good-quality splash resistance, and it’s easy to connect to your preferred Bluetooth streaming device.

Pros:

  • Stable Bluetooth connectivity
  • Reliable FM reception
  • Small and easy-to-use design
  • Nice appearance
  • Loud volume

Cons:

  • Doesn’t remember the stations you were listening to
  • No DAB radio

8. POPyourShower DAB shower radio

Don’t worry, if you were starting to think that you were going to need to spend a fortune to get a DAB shower radio for your home, think again. The POPyourShower waterproof radio is a splash-resistant device with an IPX5 rating. That means that you can keep it in your bathroom when you’re showering, but you probably shouldn’t submerge it into any water.

The POPyourShower radio comes with a rechargeable battery lasting up to 10 hours, a headphone output for private listening on the go, and 4 preset channels to choose from. There’s a hanging strap so you can place it anywhere in your bathroom with ease, and DAB and FM radio included.

However, unlike many of the other devices that we’ve seen so far, you don’t get Bluetooth. If you’re looking specifically for a waterproof radio for the shower, this device costs just under £35 and comes with:

  • A headphone output
  • Preset channels (4)
  • Water resistance up to IPX5
  • Easy-to-use hanging strap
  • Small and lightweight design
  • DAB+ and FM radio
  • Rechargeable battery

This is a simple radio that’s great for those who want access to DAB on the go. Although there isn’t any Bluetooth connectivity, you should be able to find plenty of content to listen to on your digital channels.

Additionally, we loved the fact that the design is shockproof, as well as splash-proof. That means that everything shouldn’t fall apart if you accidentally drop the device. The buttons do take a little getting used to, which might be a problem for some users too.

Pros:

  • DAB connectivity included
  • 4 preset channels to browse through
  • Easy to set up in your bathroom
  • Rechargeable battery lasts up to 10 hours

Cons:

  • No Bluetooth connectivity
  • Splash resistant, not fully waterproof
  • Difficult to use the buttons

9. AGPTEK Bluetooth shower radio

Last, but not least, we come to a stylish shower radio with Bluetooth connectivity from the AGPTEK brand. This compact device plays in multiple modes to help you get the best selection of music for your needs.

There’s Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity to help you track down and link to your devices in a matter of seconds. Additionally, although this product was designed as a speaker first, it does come with FM radio options with up to 40 stations to store and choose from.

For those who love listening to loud music with plenty of depth, there’s a unique “Heavy bass” effect included with the AGPTEK. Additionally, the battery power is pretty impressive, too, with up to 12 hours of battery life and quick recharging.

The device comes with an IPX5 waterproof rating, so you can splash it, but not submerge it in water.

For just under £20, you’ll get:

  • Reliable and powerful portable speaker
  • Up to 12 hours of battery life
  • 1PX5 waterproof (Splash-proof) performance
  • Effortless Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity
  • Suction cup and lanyard for easy use
  • Quick charging
  • Compact design

All around, the AGPTEK shower radio is a convenient device that’s ideal for anyone who wants a reliable Bluetooth speaker, with the extra functionality of FM radio. If you want a full DAB shower radio, then this isn’t going to be the device for you, but the kit is great at playing your favourite music and sounds on the go when it’s connected to a Bluetooth streaming device.

Not only is the AGPTEK easy to use, but it doesn’t need charging too regularly either, so you can keep it in your bathroom for longer.

Pros:

  • Bluetooth 5.0 streaming
  • Heavy bass effect option
  • FM radio streaming
  • Suction cup and lanyard included
  • Splash-proof design

Cons:

  • No DAB radio
  • Limited functionality
  • Can take time to get used to using the buttons

Choosing the best shower radios for your needs

These days, shower radios come in many different shapes and sizes, but they won’t all be suitable for your specific needs. Some of the waterproof shower radio options that we covered above were designed specifically for streaming radio, although they might have included extra features like Bluetooth connectivity.

Other options are designed as a speaker first, with the opportunity to listen to FM radio thrown in.

Your choice of the best shower radio will depend on a number of different factors, including what you want to listen to, and how you’re going to be using your device.

How waterproof should a shower radio be?

One of the most important things to consider when choosing shower radios, is that just because a device is called a “Shower radio” doesn’t mean that it will survive being submerged in water.

Many of the best shower radios that we reviewed above were actually just “splash proof”. What this means is that you can bring the radio into your bathroom while you’re showering and not worry about damaging the internal workings.

A splash-proof radio is much safer to use in a wet space than your smartphone or an expensive typical radio like the Roberts Play. On the other hand, there are a waterproof shower radios out there which are actually impervious to water (to some extent).

If you want to be able to submerge your radio in water or keep it with you when you’re under the shower, then you’ll need an IPX7 rating for your device. IPX7 ratings indicate that a radio will survive being dipped into 3 feet of water for around 30 minutes or less.

Features to look for in your waterproof shower radio

Ultimately, while bringing a full radio into your bathroom with you might seem like a strange thing to do at first – it’s a great way to start your day. You should only ever use a water-resistant radio when you’re in the shower, as this will reduce your chances of any electric shocks, or dangerous reactions between technology and water.

At the same time, ensuring that you use a shower radio when you’re in the bathroom also means that you won’t have to buy an expensive audio system when your other one conks out because of exposure to moisture.

However, just as with most radios today, it’s worth noting that there are features you may want to look for when you’re searching for the best shower radio, besides a strong waterproof rating.

For instance, a lot of the top radios that we reviewed above come with the option to connect to your devices via Bluetooth. A strong Bluetooth connection not only means that you can stream music straight from your laptop or smartphone.

Bluetooth could also mean that you can respond to calls from your speaker if you have a microphone in the device.

Other capabilities to look into include:

  • DAB connectivity: A DAB shower radio means that you can listen to a wider range of stations without having to worry about being limited to what you can find through an FM connection. Adding DAB to your shower radio can sometimes make it more expensive though.
  • Microphone: An embedded microphone in your Bluetooth shower radio will allow you to answer calls if you decide to do so when you’re in the bath or shower. You can respond to calls without putting your smartphone at risk.
  • Clocks and timers: Some radios come with clocks so you can check the time when you’re showering. This is an excellent feature if you often find yourself spending too long in the shower before work – particularly when you’re listening to music.
  • Hanging straps and suction cups: A lot of shower radios come with multiple options that allow you to attach the device to a wall so you can use it easily or hang it somewhere in your bathroom.
  • Added extras: Some of the best shower radios also come with additional fun features like, presets so you can save your favourite radio stations. You might even choose a shower radio that comes with LED lights included so you can have a light show in your bathroom.

Suds and sounds: Choosing the best shower radios

There’s a shower radio out there for almost every need today. Whether you’re looking for a basic Bluetooth speaker that can deliver FM connectivity, like the AGPTEK radio, or something more comprehensive, like the Roberts Radio Splash.

Keep in mind that the more features you want, from DAB to Bluetooth connectivity, the more you’ll need to pay.

Our favourite choice for this particular review is probably the Majority Eversden, simply because of the wide range of features that come with it. However, it’s worth noting that the Roberts radio probably has the highest audio quality.

Which device will you be listening to in your shower?
