Often ranked among the top choices for affordable DAB radios, Majority has a lot to offer in terms of style and performance.
In this Majority Little Shelford review, we’ll be exploring the benefits of one of the smaller, portable DAB radios from the Majority brand.
More than just a digital radio, the Little Shelford is a comprehensive DAB and FM radio, alarm clock, and Bluetooth speaker in one. Despite its small price tag, the Majority Little Shelford DAB+ radio offers some significant bang for your buck.
Let’s take a closer look.
Little Shelford: Design
The Majority Little Shelford is the portable radio and alarm clock designed by Majority (a UK consumer electronics brand). Many of Majority’s radios stand out for their unique aesthetic appeal, and this is certainly the case with the little Shelford.
A charming device small enough to pick up and carry with you on the move, the Little Shelford is a DAB radio with a vintage aesthetic. There’s a leather-looking carry handle on the top, which connects to a leather-style body in a range of colors.
You can choose from duck egg, red, midnight blue, black, and cream. There’s also the grey Little Shelford, which we picked for our review.
Another point to mention about the Little Shelford design, is the copper-style metallic finish on the grille and the top of the radio. This delivers a wonderfully on-trend industrial chic aesthetic which really takes any room to the next level.
Little Shelford: Features
We didn’t conduct our Majority Little Shelford review just to tell you how nice it looks. This digital radio also has a lot of functionality to offer. As mentioned above, the Majority Little Shelford Bluetooth radio supports digital streaming, as well as FM and DAB+ or DAB radio.
The handy pre-set function included with the device means you can easily skip through pre-saved stations if you don’t want to spend long searching for the music you love.
Crucially, this is a portable radio. You don’t have to plug it into the mains (although you can do this if you prefer). You’ll also be able to switch the main charging compartment out of the device and switch it with a set of 4 AA batteries.
Once you’re powered up, you can carry the radio using the included handle.
At first glance when conducting our Majority Little Shelford review, we almost expected to discover a device built for the 80s, with AM/FM radio and a tape deck. What you actually get from this device is a modern listening experience, enhanced by a sleek retro appearance.
The Majority Little Shelford digital radio is best suited for DAB and DAB+ listening. Although you do get access to FM radio, you might find some of the frequencies aren’t as strong as they could be. Purchasing an antenna booster system might be a good way to overcome this problem.
An extra feature is the Bluetooth streaming, but like with most Majority radios, this isn’t as advanced as it could be. You will only be able to stream when you’re in pretty close proximity to the device. Despite this, you do get a speaker and radio system easy to use and set up.
Little Shelford: Performance
The Majority Little Shelford FM radio isn’t supposed to be a complex, high-tech device, and it shows. This is the kind of straightforward radio you’d feel comfortable taking with you around the garden or using in the kitchen.
It’s also something you could easily buy your grandparents, thanks to its simplistic functionality and set up.
The DAB reception is great, and you shouldn’t have too much problem skipping through channels with ease. The pre-set option is a bit of a headache, however, as you might find your device suddenly forgets the stations you set.
There are also no dedicated pre-set buttons for skipping through channels at a faster rate, you need to use a menu instead.
Despite a few awkward components, the Little Shelford is a delight to use. We loved listening to the sound during our Majority Little Shelford DAB radio review, and found the volume to be pretty impressive, despite the small speaker size.
You may notice a slight amount of distortion around the bass levels at particularly high volumes, but it’s not enough to really detract much from the experience.
Little Shelford: Verdict
The Majority Little Shelford is pleasing on the eye, for a price you just can’t argue with. This digital radio won’t cost more than £40, and it’s portable enough you can take it with you wherever you go.
The sound quality is great, and design is charming enough that you’re going to want one in every colour.
Don’t expect the most impressive sound quality in the world, or a build quality with the finest materials, but the Majority doesn’t feel cheap or low-quality. Ultimately, this is a fantastic piece of kit for a price anyone can afford.
