As we mentioned above, the best bookshelf radios come in a wide variety of styles and shapes. 

This particular product from Toshiba takes a vintage all-in-one approach to audio perfection. 

The speakers come built into the main unit, so you can slide the whole device easily into any bookshelf, without worrying about extra space. 

There’s also Bluetooth streaming available so you can play your own music if you can’t find anything to listen to on the radio. 

This bookshelf stereo with wooden surround comes with an aux input and USB port for playing your MP3s, and an FM radio connection, although there’s no support for AM. You can also save up to 30 stations to your presets so finding them is quicker and easier.

Here’s another excellent choice for anyone looking for the ultimate mini bookshelf stereo.

Thanks to the included NFC chip, all you need to do when you want to connect to your stereo is tap your phone against the logo. This means scanning for channels is a thing of the past.

The NFC will only work if you have the right kind of phone.

While many of the bookshelf stereo reviews we’ve conducted so far look at smaller devices, the Yamaha MCR-B020BL is our favorite mini and mighty product.

Unfortunately, you can’t change the CDs you’re playing without turning the full system off, which is a strange glitch.

This high-performance product from Denon comes with a CD player, and an FM receiver. 

You also get a pair of stunning speakers that deliver high-performance audio with their own dome tweeters and woofers built-in. 

Aside from an excellent audio performance, the Denon D-M41 also promises a fantastic user experience. 

Handling your music is easy thanks to a remote control, plus, you can stream your music through Bluetooth too.

Although you will pay around $200 for this machine, it’s a reasonable price when you consider all the functionality you get.

Another issue is that the CD player can jam from time to time. 

7. Bose Wave System IV (best sound quality)

Sound quality should always be one of the first factors you consider when looking for the best bookshelf stereo. 

For us, few things measure up to the incredible sound of the Bose Wave System. 

This powerful all-in-one device is compact enough to fit in virtually any room or space. You can even slot it underneath your television if you want to. 

Despite its compact size, the Bose Wave can deliver enough clear sound to fill an entire room with absolutely no problem. 

There’s a built-in CD player, and you can use the aux-in port to play your own music from a laptop or smartphone. Unfortunately, you don’t get Bluetooth as part of the experience. 

There is support for AM/FM radio, however, which comes with an excellent signal – ideal for limiting disruption and noise. 

For a price of around $400, features include:

The Bose Wave would probably earn the top points in our bookshelf stereo system review, if it weren’t for the few features it misses out. 

You can control your audio EQ and get an excellent quality of sound. However, there’s no Bluetooth, and there are only 6 presets available for AM and FM stations. 

Plus, the price is extremely high for a stereo without that many extra features. 

8. Philips FX10 (best Bluetooth)

We loved the Philips FX10 for a range of reasons. First, it looks great. 

Although certain elements of the speaker might seem a little tacky with their golden finish, the whole stereo set works really well together. 

At the same time, you get a fantastic range of features for a pretty affordable price. There’s a CD player built-in, or you can access your music through USB or aux-in. 

FM radio is available with this bookshelf stereo, but there’s no AM connection. 

You can stream your own music through Bluetooth. 

The dual amplifiers included in this stereo system offer an excellent level of sound. Plus, you can detach the speakers from the main system and place them anywhere in your room. 

For a price of around $190, features include:

Offering a great quality of sound for such a small device, the bookshelf stereo systems from Philips tick a lot of boxes for us. 

Not only is this product reliable, but it’s easy to use too – regardless of what you might want to listen to. 

The biggest issue we had with this stereo is the wires were really too short to connect it to a wall. Unless you can position your speaker right next to an outlet, you’re going to have a problem. 

9. Boytone BT-28SPG (best with record player)

The Boytone might not be the most compact stereo we’ve seen – but it still fits into the Bookshelf device category. 

This unique product is unlike any of the mini bookshelf stereo products we’ve looked at so far. 

Though it still comes with 2 separate speakers you can remove and place wherever you like, there are a variety of different ways to play your music. 

Along with AM/FM radio, you also get a CD and cassette player. There’s the option to play vinyl records too or connect your digital devices using a USB or aux cable. 

If you’re looking for something totally versatile, this is the product for you. The Boytone even comes with a Bluetooth connection for direct streaming too. 

For a price of around $190, features include:

This is one of the more versatile bookshelf stereo systems we’ve seen. 

Although you will need a lot more space to manage this device than you would with some of our other choices, the larger footprint might be worth it. 

Just make sure you have the patience to sit down and figure out how to use this machine before you get started. It can take a while to figure out how everything works.
