Welcome to your all-access Majority Histon II radio review. In this review, we’ll be looking at one of the most affordable products in the Majority line.

Majority is one of the better-known companies in the radio world (particularly in the UK). The Company offers an excellent combination of attractive and practical devices, which don’t break the bank.

Whether you’re looking for a radio and CD player, or something small enough to fit in your pocket, Majority has you covered.

The Majority Histon II is a simple but effective DAB radio released in 2018.

In this Majority Histon II radio review, we’ll be looking at all the features, the performance, and whether this device is worth your cash.

Histon II: Design

The Majority Histon II portable radio is a compact device with a minimalist appeal. Although very small, this DAB radio doesn’t look cheap or feel poorly made. In fact, we’d say the Majority Histon II DAB radio looks like a more robust, expensive device.

There are three different colours to choose from, including a pink (rose) colour, silver, and the classic black. All three radios come with the same sleek box shape, an extendable antenna, and a small screen where you can see information about your music.

This portable radio comes with both a mains or battery power option, so you can take it with you on the move. You’ll also be able to use it as a bedside clock, because there are dual alarms built in.

Compared to other designs from Majority, the Histon II is quite modern, offering a simplistic style that should fit well in any room of the home.

Histon II: Features

At its core, the Majority Histon II DAB+ radio is a fully featured digital radio that’s small enough to fit in your pocket or backpack.

You don’t get any advanced features like Bluetooth streaming and smartphone control, but you can listen to a range of radio channels through DAB, DAB+ and FM.

As mentioned above, there’s a battery pack component where you can add 4 AA batteries, or you can simply connect your device to your wall outlet. We think it’d be a great addition to the bedside table, thanks to the dual alarm system.

You can even set the radio channel you want to play when you wake up, or simply use a buzzer. A snooze button offers a few more minutes of rest.

Beyond radio and alarm functionality, there’s not much more to say about the Histon II. The buttons along the top of the device will allow you to switch modes and skip between channels. There’s also a pre-set function for saving your favourite stations.

Features include:

  • FM/DAB and FAB+ radio
  • 20 pre-set stations (10 FM and 10 DAB/DAB+)
  • Dual alarm clock
  • Headphone jack
  • Sleep timer
  • Snooze button
  • Telescopic ariel
  • Mains or battery power
  • USB cable support

Histon II: Performance

This is one of the more basic radios from Majority. The Majority Histon II alarm clock radio doesn’t have any Bluetooth connectivity, so we skipped the connection part of this review. Your only options for listening to music is through FM and DAB.

This doesn’t mean this isn’t a worthwhile product, however. The small size makes it an ideal item to have on-hand if you travel a lot.

We can easily imagine taking the Majority Histon II DAB/DAB+ Digital FM radio with us when we’re heading out on camping trips or going on vacation. The alarm function is easy to set up and comes with a handy snooze option.

Plus, you can easily save a range of channels to pre-sets. The biggest downside of the pre-set function is there aren’t any dedicated buttons, so you’ll need to search through a menu instead.

From a sound quality perspective, we were a little disappointed with the Majority Histon II. Though you can’t expect too much from a small radio, the sound does get quite tinny the more you turn the volume up.

On the plus side, the radio reception for both the DAB and FM channels was very clear, with minimal crackling or interference to speak of. This probably has something to do with the included antenna.

Histon II: Verdict

Cheap and cheerful, the Majority Histon II alarm clock radio does what it says on the tin. If you’re looking for a portable and compact product you can keep on your bedside table, this is it.

The Majority Histon II radio gives you plenty of channel options, so you never run out of entertainment. It’s also a fantastic product in terms of simplicity. We just wish the pre-sets were a little easier to manage, and the sound didn’t distort at high volumes.
