Pure Siesta Charge review
Contributing Editor
The right clock radio can really help you to wake up on the right side of the bed.
Whether you need a basic alert to help jolt you from dreamland, or you’re looking for a radio that will wake you up with the sound of your favourite show – there are plenty of options out there.
Some of the latest products in the radio market even come with some impressive additional features.
For instance, what would you say if we told you could have your very own Pure DAB radio with a wireless charging surface for your smartphone?
The Siesta Charge from Pure is one of the latest additions to the Pure Siesta range, which includes the Rise, and the Siesta Home.
Intended for the modern radio lover, the Charge takes the bedside alarm clock and radio to the next level, giving you an unbeatable experience each morning.
Let’s check out one of the most exciting DAB radio alarm clocks you can buy right now.
Pure Siesta Charge review: Design and build
Like many of the products available from Pure, one of the first things that stands out about the Siesta Charge when you see it in person is how sleek and stylish it is.
Available in either black or white, this Pure Siesta DAB digital clock radio is sure to look amazing on any bedside table.
The large matt-style front screen is particularly appealing – ideal for those who don’t want to see their face reflected in their alarm clock each morning (we’ve all been there).
Speaking of the display, it also comes with an auto-dimming feature that’s designed to black-out the screen when you fall asleep, so you won’t be kept awake by blinking numbers.
The top of the alarm also features all the buttons you need to skip to your favourite preset station or turn down the sound. That means that you don’t have to spend as much time searching for the right button when you’re half asleep.
Of course, the most exciting design feature of this Pure Siesta clock radio, is the charging options that come with it.
The wireless charging pad on the top of the device works with any Qi-compatible smartphone. You don’t even need to plug your phone in, just place it on top of your radio.
There’s also an available USB power part if you want to charge two devices at the same time.
Pure Siesta Charge review: Features
At first glance, the Pure Siesta Charge doesn’t look like the most comprehensive Pure DAB radio on the market. Other products, like the Pure Chronos, seem far more complete, with a wider range of features to choose from.
However, you don’t necessarily need a CD player and dual speakers for your bedside DAB radio alarm clock.
The Siesta Charge might be simple, but that doesn’t mean that it’s lacking in the features that you need. This is a device that Pure designed to be the ultimate companion for your bedside table.
It will charge your phone wirelessly, so you never have to worry about forgetting to plug your device in again.
Additionally, the ultra-clear screen means that you can quickly and easily check the time from anywhere.
At the same time, you get the benefits of exceptional stereo sound whether you’re listening to DAB radio, FM, or you’re just streaming content straight from your smartphone with Bluetooth.
For such a modern and capable device, we were actually surprised that this Pure digital Siesta Charge was available for such a low price point. While just under £130 might seem like a lot at first, it’s really not bad for the kind of technology that you’re getting.
Features include:
- FM, DAB, and DAB+ radio
- Bluetooth streaming to access content from your phone
- Phone charging via a USB output or QI wireless charging pad
- Multiple alarm options to wake up how you choose
- Easy-to-manage interface
- Crystal clear display with the auto-dim option
- Kitchen and sleep timers included
- Headphones output for private listening
- 40 preset options and multiple preset buttons
For extra convenience in your bedroom, the Siesta Charge comes with 3 individual alarms which you can set in the way that suits you. There’s the option to wake to a preferred station or tone alarm.
In addition, you can set separate alarms for different days. Aside from a CD player, it’s hard to find anything that this Pure DAB radio alarm clock is missing.
Pure Siesta Charge review: Performance
Compared to some of the other devices available from Pure today, the Siesta Charge might take a little more time to get used to functionality-wise.
There are a number of features to experiment with, including Bluetooth streaming, and multiple alarms. We found it a little tricky to set the alarms at first – but that’s something that can be an issue with many DAB clock radio options.
On the plus side, it’s clear that the Pure Siesta Charge has been crafted with excellent attention to detail. The clear display makes it easy to read your options as you’re skipping through channels.
We also appreciated the fact that there are 40 preset stations available – although you only get 3 quick-access buttons, which is a little disappointing.
From a sound perspective, you can expect the same excellent stereo quality that you’ve come to recognise from the rest of the Pure digital Siesta range.
This Pure Siesta clock radio won’t sound like a clock that’s had radio functionality built into it last-minute. This is a device that puts audio quality first – with excellent clear tones whether you’re listening to DAB or Bluetooth.
Speaking of Bluetooth, you might fumble to get a connection with your device at first, but once you’ve got the hang of it, it’s easy to get your smartphone set up and streaming content to your radio in no time.
Pure Siesta Charge review: Verdict
If you’re looking for a Pure Siesta DAB digital clock radio that’s ready for the future, then the Siesta Charge is it.
One of the most compelling alarm clock and radio products on the market, this item is sleek, reliable, and powerful, with plenty of options available to help you listen to your favourite channels.
Although you might not be able to fill an entire house with the volume of this clock radio – that’s something that most people would expect.
In addition, we thought that this product would have been a little better if it had more preset quick-access buttons – but that isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker.
